Even as the country's airline industry is cutting costs to fly through the turbulence triggered by the rising cost of fuel, the graph of arrivals in to India looks promising, registering a 11.51% increase between January to June 2008. That India has been voted as Asia’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards – 2008 “Asia and Indian Ocean” reaffirms this fact.
To ensure that her visitors feel more than welcome, India has commenced the Ginger Rail Yatri Niwas – the Smart Basics Hotels for the rail travelers. Tamil Nadu is also wooing visitors with her Guest Care Campaign and a Platinum and Gold discount card opportunity at their TTDC hotels.
Contributing significantly to a rise in global travel graphs, people with special needs are travelling more often now than ever before. In a bid to educate and sensitize the industry on the special needs of these travelers, The ASTA, India Chapter in association with Ministry of Tourism- India (Incredible India) are organising a seminar series on “Accessible Travel” for these people with special needs.
Mobile phones are now moving to a higher frequency. Pledging to save the Tigers, they recently unveiled their Tiger Wall of Hope in Rajasthan and are pitching in to provide education to the villagers for sustainable development and identifying alternative livelihood programs for villages around national parks, specifically Ranthambore. Meantime, Jaipur celebrate night carnival by lighting up the Amber fort, while Agra celebrated the 353rd death anniversary of Shahjahan (builder of Taj Mahal) to spread the message of love and fight terrorism.
